Love that quote from Picasso, seen on a cafe wall here in Auckland. Back to our last term of the year long course, and all is preparation for the exhibition in November. As there are 12 of us we will probably all have two works to show, unless we are doing smaller work. We have to design our own invitation and organise food and wine.

I have completed my third ‘church’ painting and third time lucky, this one works for me. Reading about and looking at work (sadly only online) by William Crozier and Luc Tuymans. I’m now excited about trashing some of my paintings that didn’t work in this series, and painting over them. I have three that work for me so I’m excited about that.
Further to the Picasson quote, the Michael OB has told me of the following:
Who said “Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life.”?
The common answer is Pablo Picasso, and he may well have said it, but he was quoting from Berthold Auerbach, a German novelist (1812 – 1882), who said “Music washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life.” long before Picasso was born (Picasso was born in 1881).

It’s always good to hear of a new fan of the artist, William Crozier. You may be interested to hear that there is, finally, a book on Crozier. It was published by Lund Humphries, London, last October. I have to declare my interest, as I edited the book but it is a terrific picture book showing Crozier’s work over 50 years.
Best wishes and good luck with your own painting.
