Quiet low today – the end of term three and although I have worked steadily I have only two finished paintings to show for it. My intention at the start of the year was to work on a theme, elaborate it, prepare a good body of work and be prepared for both working on my own, and to start approaching galleries. But with two paintings under my arm I won’t be going anywhere – and two different paintings at that! ‘Berewic’ and ‘White Inside’.
I have one term left of the year. I hope I can make something of it, and get to where I want to be.
On a good note, I have worked out how I can work solidly on my paintings – I will work every day from 7.00am to 9.00am, shower/breakfast and hit my desk by 10.00am. My clients will not even notice I’m not there! Very excited about that. Not too worried about finding studio space anymore, just get on with it in the lounge and the rest will come. I’ll start this routine on Monday for the three week term break, stick to the whole day Tuesday during the term, and then back into it after that is over.
Good luck with the plan! The most important thing (in my opinion) is that you already have a theme. The rest will come.
I am still struggling finding a theme because I tend to jump to very different subjects and I have no experience whatsoever. Is – in your case -finding a theme something which comes once in a while or is something planned? Or both?
Hi Lisa
I work on a planned theme till it is exhausted, and along the way I will collect material for other themes that I might explore later, writing ideas and notes down as I go.
When one theme is complete, I can then look over the notes and start work on another one. I learnt to do this on the course I am currently completing, and it works well.
Always something to work on, always something to finish. And for me, one theme always seems to lead to another.
