Amy McKinnon at Painter's Progress Group Exhibition Artstation 2008
Fascinating book on Georgia O’Keeffe. I’ve finished the book now and I thoroughly enjoyed it, I will read it again very soon. I always read a good book too fast, and have to read again and then it feels like I get a second book.
Something Georgia said, who never painted living creatures, rang a bell with me – “I’ve always believed that I can get all that into a picture by suggestion. I mean the life that has been lived in a place.” My paintings and drawings now are empty of people and man made structures, but to me, they are all about ‘the life that has been lived in a place’. The people all over the years that have travelled that land.
I want to read and discover more about this fascinating woman whose paintings I have admired as I have stumbled on them, but I’ve never read anything about her till this book.
And a new exhibition for me is now confirmed – at the Governor’s Gallery at Auckland University, along with Amy McKinnon – in October 2009. Planning and painting begins in earnest.
