I’ve finished another smaller painting that will be exhibited The Little Gallery in Tairua. This one is a seascape of Penzance. I am very pleased with it – brings back memories for me too while I was painting it, all good.
And the framing for the ‘Hauptallee’ painting is ready, so that painting will go down [...]

New studio!

On Saturday the Dornwell Studios became a reality, I met most of the other artists. All is good. And my space looks much bigger than what I remembered and tried working in in my head.
On Sunday I shifted all art related stuff from the apartment to the studio – and what had seemed piles of [...]

Fascinating book on Georgia O’Keeffe. I’ve finished the book now and I thoroughly enjoyed it, I will read it again very soon. I always read a good book too fast, and have to read again and then it feels like I get a second book.
Something Georgia said, who never painted living creatures, rang a bell [...]

Our studio space is confirmed at long last! Just waiting for the lease to be completed, and the painting and partitions to be done.
Meanwhile at Painter’s Project on Monday afternoons, Matthew has given us two chapters from the book ‘Trust the process’, one about Mistakes and Distortions – ‘errors are harbingers of original ideas because [...]

I have an image of my latest finished painting, a 1200 x 900 oil painting on canvas, called ‘North York Moors’. I was still trying to capture that feeling of history and wonderment about everyone that may have walked over this land over hundrends of years.

I’ve finished two new paintings and very pleased with both of them. The smaller one, Hauptallee, is pictured here and I’ll have the other image for you soon.
One is of the Hauptallee in The Prater in Vienna, and the other of the North York Moors. I’ve really enjoying painting these, trying to capture the atmosphere, [...]
Wolf Kahn again…

After last year’s exhibition, someone mentioned that I should look at some of Wolf Kahn’s art work as mine reminded them of his. I’ve just done this and a little shocked. Back in 2007, I used Wolf Kahn’s work for an exercise called ‘Conversation with an Artist’ – we had to paint one of our [...]
A New Year

I’m back into the year again after weeks of family, fun, sun and laughter. All I want to do this year is paint – so many paintings to do. My plan is to paint every week day morning, and hit my work desk no later than 10.00am. I’ve already done a week’s course on old [...]

I am cheered up a little to know others sometimes have the same issues, even those that have painted successfully for years! This a American painter called Robert Genn talking: “I always wondered why, on the odd times when I do something rather good, I’m immediately hyped up and do yet another. Hormones, eh? [...]
