White Light by DBG Goodwin

I went to the opening of this exhibition in Ferner Gallery, Parnell 25 February – 6 March 2008. A friend had raved about this work so had to go and see for myself. Large paintings basically white on white – gesso or white oil on unprimed canvas, capturing the light on figures as they go about their day. Impressive in their simplicity and space. Dave Goodwin hails from one on my favourite places, Kaiaua. Spoke to him about our course presentations and he agreed, so off to Kaiaua one day soon. Continue reading White Light by DBG Goodwin

Garry Currin and Dick Frizzell

The first of a series of presentations by everyone in the class on a chosen artist, currently exhibiting in New Zealand. Today we learnt from Ingrid Delamore about Garry Currin, who starts his paintings almost as rubbings – laying the unstretched canvas over rocks and capturing the texture to begin and inspire his painting. And from Carron Boswell about Dick Frizzell, a longstanding New Zealand artist. An interactive presentation – our group won a bag of Jaffas!
