Four watercolours and a new class..

A good day in the studio yesterday although getting hailed on and drenched walking there was uncomfortable. I had to dry myself with a towel covered in old paint and charcoal, lovely! And then try and dry items of clothing one by one on a tiny studio heater. But I managed four small watercolours before I thought I better dash again in between huge black clouds and showers. These belong to the Kaiaua theme I have been working on for a few months. Small Studies at Auckland’s Satellite Gallery

Small Studies is an exhibition of new works by artists Clare Purser and Robyn Gibson, at Auckland’s Satellite Gallery from the 7 th to 24th September, 2010. Clare Purser finds inspiration in the letters and postcards sent ‘home’ in colonial times to friends and family.   Like aged snapshots of another time, the rugged texture of the surface and the ambiguous forms combine to evoke a mood of isolation and mystery. Painted onto salvaged native wood panels, these small postcard-like paintings offer glimpses of a raw and primal landscape.
