THINKspace Raewyn Walsh

Wed, 29 Jan 14 – Sun, 16 Feb 2014 Masterworks Gallery Ponsonby   ‘In many ways, my practice is governed by time. The silversmithing techniques I use emphasise this – this kind of process takes a long time and consequently I am not a hugely prolific maker. For this project I have reconsidered my time spent making this kind of work with the view to embrace varied influences and introduce more spontaneity in my approach and my decision making. This body of work seeks to retain my sensibility but to also allow a lighter, looser treatment of my favoured material, … Continue reading THINKspace Raewyn Walsh

Chris Dennis, finalist in the 2012 Cliftons Art Prize

Chris Dennis is one of the artists in our shared space, Dornwell Studios. He is a finalist in the 2012 Cliftons Art Prize. I’ll leave Chris to describe his work… they are powerful. Congratulations! “My paintings are perhaps best described as ‘Narrative expressionism’ or ‘internalized portraiture’. The stories behind these ‘Therianthropic’ pieces have been carefully obfuscated and invite the viewer to create their own narrative, bringing to mind facets or emotions that maybe more difficult to confront if not disguised behind a mask.” Chris Dennis grew up in, England. He studied natural history illustration at Bournemouth and Poole College of … Continue reading Chris Dennis, finalist in the 2012 Cliftons Art Prize

We hope you can make the opening on Tuesday August 2nd from 5.30pm – 9pm at 22 McColl St. Newmarket, or stop by and say hello any time from August 1st until the 14th. If you know of anyone that may be interested or can help spread the word, please pass this on. Sincerely, Chris Dennis (& Karley Feaver). … Continue reading Trying to steal a little of the light and heat

A tentative start to the New Year…

I know I have been a bit quiet here but starting to get back into it again this year! Last weekend I ventured down to Hikuai Valley and spent Saturday with a painting group at the gorgeous Hikuai Hall – always a great day playing. This time I deliberatly(sp) took no painting equipment with me and used what ever materials and colours were in the collective art box. I really enjoyed it, and it makes you play and go in different directions. Two shown here – all about the range of hills that surround the Hikuai Valley. Hoping to get … Continue reading A tentative start to the New Year…
