More personal information than you need to know…

One more painting finished for the nephews and nieces – this one comes from the North York Moors, which are all covered in pink heather at the moment – around a little village calle Goathland. According to the nieces’ rules, this painting belongs to the middle niece, I hope she likes it. Just one more to paint and leave behind. I named my business Bessie Adelaide after one of my grandmothers, and I found this shop in Whitby named after my other grandmother, Isobel May. I’ve always felt so sorry for those donkeys you find on the beach here in … Continue reading More personal information than you need to know…

Abbess Hilda, James Cook, Bram Stoker… in Whitby

I wanted to be close to the North York Moors which I drove through a few years ago and fell in love with. I chose to stay in Whitby, a fishing town by the coast – the Moors are right outside the town. And what a good choice – a town full of old buildings, cobbled streets, pubs galore and tiny shops. Acccommodation in London booked!

Hard to find accommodation as apparently I am landing right in Wimbledom and Trooping of the Colour time so tourists galore. Trust the Process

Our studio space is confirmed at long last! Just waiting for the lease to be completed, and the painting and partitions to be done. Meanwhile at Painter’s Project on Monday afternoons, Matthew has given us two chapters from the book ‘Trust the process’, one about Mistakes and Distortions  – ‘errors are harbingers of original ideas because they introduce new directions for expression’, and the other, The Many Ways of Creating – ‘once we realize that artists are themselves expressions of every conceivable way of living, we can begin to appreciate variations of creative types’. The writing is to the point … Continue reading Trust the Process

New paintings and studio space

I’ve finished two new paintings and very pleased with both of them. The smaller one, Hauptallee, is pictured here and I’ll have the other image for you soon. One is of the Hauptallee in The Prater in Vienna, and the other of the North York Moors.  I’ve really enjoying painting these, trying to capture the atmosphere, the feeling of being in these two places and their memories, their oldness, their years of history. Both have snow in them too, I love the cold and the snow.  I’ve used oil paint with Rapid medium, with layers and layers of transparent colour, … Continue reading New paintings and studio space
