Urban Heaven and Towards the Line

A very wet First Thursday evening in Auckland – not a night to be out and about. Aaron Wilson recently graduated from Whitecliffe College of Arts and Design after majoring in fine arts (painting). Aaron’s work is showing in an exhibition at Satellite Gallery called Towards the Line. The main works are tape installations and Wilson will continue on the main installation over the rest of the week so you can pop back and see it’s progress – this larger installation is accross one wall and around the corner. The works are all views of the local city scape. There … Continue reading Urban Heaven and Towards the Line

She paints intuitively using the qualities of light to illuminate elusive and enigmatic figures, the details of each being unknown to her before painting commences, so that with each work there … Continue reading Entre’acte

RAW… like a lion

After five months of absorbing art from earlier centuries, it was refreshing and inspiring to check out AUT University’s School of Art + Design RAW Festival 2011. We only took in the Visual Arts portion of the festival over four floors – work from both the Bachelor and Postgraduate Visual Arts programmes. I was excited in particular to see Margaret Estall’s work. I had studied at ArtStation with Margaret over 2 years and at that time she painted exquisite representational work based on the floral head wear of the Cook Islands. The senses play a large part in her latest … Continue reading RAW… like a lion

‘wish you were here’

A mini exhibition in a Pod at the Satellite Gallery for the next month. I will change the two paintings every week. “This is what I am left with when all else has slipped away. It is a memory of a memory, a hook linking me to my childhood on the Hauraki Plains. Glimpses of the Coromandel ranges, the rose garden at the front of my grandmother’s house, a radiogram covered by a bright yellow throw. These snatches of memory are my anchors. I can only speak to that past through my paintings, through these postcards. There are ghosts in … Continue reading ‘wish you were here’
