In a video by Bruce Foster that is part of the Kermadec exhibition, John Reynolds gives his Mickey Mouse lecture… ‘Artists point – that’s what they do.’ In the same video, artists Dame Robin White also talks ‘about looking for things that pinpoint the place’. John Pule, artist – KERMADEC, nine artists explore the South Pacific

John Pule has three large works in this exhibition. Two of these large paintings vividly depict the volcanic nature of Raoul Island using oil and varnish. Its depicted as dark, lush and continually rumbling.  Pule has managed to portray a molten, volcanic feel to the land. Springing from the soil is the lush fantastical tropical plant life. ‘The Great World’ also has a tropical looking bird-like creature. In ‘The Other Country’ the plants are so lush they grow stongly off the top of the canvas. In these works John Pule uses a limited palette of black ink and oil. Carolyn Milbank artist sculptor

You can see Carolyn’s work at the group exhibition “Small Sculpture Prize 2012” at Waiheke Community Art Gallery. Carolyn also has an exhibition on at the Wallace Gallery in Morrinsville – April 5th to May 1st – along with Meiling Lee and Anneke Muijlwijk. “Locale” – multimedia artworks that explore notions of habitat, territory and locale. Mike Morgan and Jill Perrott

Two more presentations from our group, from Sara Albisser and Judy Pentecost. Sara talked about a fellow Waiheke Island artist, Mike Morgan. His art is decribed as ‘naive surrealism’ and depicts Waiheke Island people and activities in bright colour and humour. And Judy spoke about a friend and artist, Jill Perrott.
