Lady Louisa’s Walk

A short gentle walk today following in the footsteps of Lady Louisa Cavendish, oldest daughter of the 7th Duke of Devonshire. Thanks to Storm Desmond over Ireland and England, the River is in flood, but the sun was out today for a short time.

Castle Avenue – walk down the avenue and the walls on your left surround the gardens developed in the 17c by Robert Boyle, 1st Earl of Cork. These gardens are one of the few Jacobean Gardens to survive in almost original form. Shame I couldn’t see them!

The Spout is a natural spring well that provided water for the estate workers in the castle until the early part of the 19th century.
